Just only 10 days after the first disaster, the second one came adding more burden on the shoulders of the poor famers and swept away all the things that people here have been thrifty for years. We passed through where used to be fields now are left with only rice stubble soaked in the water... Joined with the delegation of Hanoi and Quang binh youth volunteers, we came to Cu Nam commune – Bo Trach district – Quang Binh province to help support the 2 most damaged villages during the recent flood with 257 houses which were totally deep in the water. Though the flood has gone and people here are trying to stabilize their living, we still can see countless difficulties and weariness they are suffering from. | | | | | Knowing that what we could bring here is not much but those gifts express our heart and soul from all the parties, and Citibank is giving a hand to help release this pain of people in this land. | | | | | | | Each of 257 gifts for 257 families who had lost their house in the flood include: 10 kg rice, 1 mosquito net, 1 bottle of fish sauce, 1 package of detergent, brush and toothpaste had been hand delivered to each of every family. | | | | | | | Thing that really made us moved was we could see clearly that in this most difficult time, the spirit of mutual sharing and covering especially from the people in this area as well as from the delegations of youth volunteers. Mr. Hoang Van Ha, Chief of Trung Nam village told us that those families whose houses were not suffered from the flood are not in the list of support although they were the ones who had provided supports to others through the flooded time without any reluctance. | | | | | Leaving Cự Nậm village, we were headed to the Hung Trach secondary school, Bo trach district and Thach Hoa primary school, Tuyen hoa district. Flood has gone but the there was lines left on the wall of the classrooms. | | | | | Ms Nguyen Thi Hong Mai, the Headmistress of the Thach Hoa primary school told us that her pupils had to stay at home for a week when the 1st flood came. 1 week after they came back to school, the 2nd flood arrived that made her teachers and pupils have to best effort to complete the school program while they still have to cope with all the lacking of study materials. | | | | | All the way back to Hanoi after the voluntary trip, rain started again, covered over the fields with a dazzling white... | | | | | On the radio, the weather forecast said that a cold wind from the North East is going to run over together with rainstorms but we all felt warm inside. The warm with the love of the unlucky people in this flooded area had brought us new and emotional feeling. We are now more penetrating in the meaning of the actions through that we could help many people to recover through the disasters and rebuild their lives and knowing that we are - Citibank now, together with the community, sharing them with our hearts... | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
